Programming - work in which the result often depends on perseverance. Not always this way of life has a positive effect on our health. But how then to maintain health and not to face occupational diseases of programmers? It would seem what problems can be in a person who primarily works with his brain, and then with his hands. But, unfortunately, programmers often face such diseases:
- vision loss;
- tunnel syndrome;
- physical inactivity;
- diseases of the musculoskeletal system;
- allergies.
Decrease in vision
Today we spend 70% of our waking hours at the monitors of various devices. The eyes of those who have received a genetic predisposition to vision problems are especially affected. Even if you have excellent genes, it does not mean that the daily eight-hour load on your eyes will pass without consequences.
What to do to keep your eyesight from falling and to work without leaving the monitor? Do eye exercises every hour, and problems will bypass you. Remember the exercises from school lessons: probably in your classroom there was a poster with a sample of eye exercises. What prevents you from hanging one at your workplace? Or alternatively, put a reminder that will notify you that it is time to do eye exercises.
Tunnel syndrome
One of the most common and insidious diseases of programmers. If you spend the whole working day with a mouse and keyboard, then without preventive exercises you put your hands at great risk. Tunnel syndrome is a compression of the median nerve of the hand, in which you feel pain and numbness in your fingers. It appears due to the constant load on the wrist, especially "working", as you constantly type code or text with your fingers, as well as use the mouse, but do it in the wrong position and without exercise during the working day.
Hypodynamia
It is not for nothing that physical inactivity is called "sedentary death syndrome" - it is a limitation of motor activity, which leads to organ dysfunction. And as you know, the human body cannot function normally in a sedentary lifestyle.
It is important to monitor your body and know the symptoms of physical inactivity:
- fatigue and chronic weakness;
- rapid fatigue;
- decrease in mental and physical performance;
- insomnia at night and drowsiness during the day;
- irritability, frequent mood changes, tendency to apathy and depression;
- decrease, or vice versa, increase in appetite;
- overweight or obesity;
- violations in the sexual sphere.
- If you notice one of these symptoms, it does not mean that you have physical inactivity. It only means that you need to consult a doctor to solve the problem. But the more symptoms you have, the higher the risk that you join the percentage of developers who work hard.
It is impossible to find a chair on which you will always sit correctly. And the constant wrong position of the shoulders, back leads to diseases such as osteochondrosis, scoliosis, arthritis, sciatica and others. The situation is aggravated by the wrong position of the monitor, to which you have to bend, stretch your neck, raise your head, bend your back.
Allergy
How often do you dust your workplace? And on the system unit? Can you draw on your screen? Then you are at great risk of getting a diagnosis such as allergies. Dust deposits cause allergic runny nose. If you have any allergy, then constant contact with dust can only aggravate it.
Therefore, we advise you to wipe the dust several times a week on the objects that are closest to you, and at least once a week on everything around you.
In fact, to be healthy, it is important to be attentive to yourself, lead an active lifestyle and relax. Do not forget to do several sets of exercises during the working day (for eyes, hands, body), and try not to be lazy and lead an active lifestyle, or at least occasionally shake your body with unusual loads. Be healthy!
