Our metabolism... countless processes in the body

The term "metabolism" refers to the countless processes in the body during which energy is provided but also consumed and substances are transported to cells, converted and transported again.

Central and the largest metabolic organ is the liver. It serves as a storage and an important detoxification organ. Intestinal disorders - in particular, improper digestion - put a huge strain on the liver, and therefore on the entire metabolism. The main requirements for maintaining metabolism in the body are balanced diet with sufficient intake of essential nutrients such as vitamins, minerals and trace elements.

Speed energy burning depends on muscle mass, hormonal balance, age, as well as on our genes. A healthy diet and regular exercise can stimulate our metabolism and increase the basal metabolic rate. In phases of starvation, the body slows down the basal metabolism and the metabolism slows down. In principle, this makes a lot of sense and has saved humanity from starvation in the past. However, today this metabolic brake is noticeable as a yo-yo effect after fast diets.

TIP

Fluids are a prerequisite for normal metabolism. Two to three liters of calorie-free drinks, such as water or unsweetened tea, reduce the unpleasant feeling of hunger between meals and generally ensure smooth processes in the body.

The two most common metabolic diseases are are diabetes mellitus and gout. If you want to eat healthy, you should definitely eat foods with high nutrient density. These are legumes, vegetables, nuts, cereals, fruits, lean meat and fish. Hot spices such as chili and ginger even speed up metabolic processes.

If you want to improve your metabolism without exercise and sports, you should lead a healthy lifestyle, avoid chronic stress and spend a lot of time eating. After a hastily eaten carbohydrate-rich meal, insulin levels are so high that fat burning is blocked for hours. In addition, the metabolism slows down from the age of forty: from now on, the constant increase in fat content should be counteracted by muscle mass.

Almost all metabolic processes are subject to circadian control. This means that metabolism and digestion do not work properly without regular alternation of sleep and wake phases. Numerous scientific studies have shown that sleep disorders such as sleep deprivation, interrupted sleep and sleeping in the light can lead to serious health problems such as obesity, depression and high blood pressure in both adults and children.
